An open resource for analyses and evaluations of a wide range of local-global issues: socio-cultural, economic, environmental, and their political connections

This website was created to serve those who live in Nanaimo, BC, Canada, but recognizes that many other communities exist for whom the content posted here may be equally relevant. For this reason, “Nanaimo” can be understood to be both a particular place and a metaphor for “local”, while “visioning” involves both defining and working to create the world in which we want to live.

In all aspects, Visioning Nanaimo recognizes the bi-directional interaction of local-global issues. The impacts of global factors are experienced locally; and local factors add up to create global. Both inform the other. When we think globally while acting locally, we also contribute to global change.
