Capital Daily. Have you noticed how “development” seems to be running backwards lately, at least when it is defined in terms like “globalization”? More small local solutions, over which we feel we have more control and influence, are now appearing to serve us better in a variety of ways. Not the least of which is exercising consumer power for our own security of food. This article in Victoria’s Capital Daily gives a number of examples of how exactly this is happening up and down Vancouver Island, including urban farming. Interestingly, it also describes how producers and sellers in these smaller markets have also learned about consumer service, production and marketing efficiencies. And they also appear to have a greater concern for the sustainability of local production and security built in. Perhaps another strategy for furthering local prosperity?
