Rabble.ca, July 30, 2021. This is a very good piece (and a must-read), which I received this morning from a VN subscriber. It describes what may be the real dilemma and challenge of our times: the conflict between prevailing economic thinking and the constraints posed by our planet’s finite, i.e., limited, resources. The writer considers human sustainability vis-à-vis the opposing views of Mark Carney (former governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, and now UN special envoy on climate action and finance) and Greta Thunberg, who needs no introduction. If a growing consensus regarding the conflict between current economics and resource constraints exists, I suggest that it is this: the sustainability of our way of life – and perhaps even the existence of our species – depends upon our reconciling these two currently opposing factors – not continuing to ignore the second one.
